History
These hymns, all written from the 1860's to the 1890's, have introduced themselves to me little by little over the last 20 years or so. I knew them well long before then, or so I thought. It was mostly sitting down with a guitar and realizing the power and deep personal meaning of the words that got me to thinking about them in a new way. I heard them as sacred poetry sung with the poignant delivery of a thoughtful singer-songwriter. Occasionally I felt the old hymns too fast. The words are so familiar that they don't stick to our minds very well. My greatest wish is that you will realize the power and impact of this sacred verse as if you heard it for the first time. I pray that a new musical framework will make these old poetic works of art shine forth in an illuminating, more relevant and affirming light.
